Supervising a learner driver is a challenging experience. It can also be very rewarding. You’ll help a young person develop the skills and attitude they need to become a safer driver.
Being a supervisor is bit like being a sports coach. Your job is to give your learner opportunities to practise driving under your supervision.
- You’ll work together, as partners, to plan practice driving sessions.
- You’ll help your learner develop safe driving skills in a variety of situations.
- You’ll gradually increase the level of difficulty when your learner is ready.
You’re not an instructor, but you will have to give lots of advice early in the learner period. Remember whenever you or your learner need some extra assistance, you can call on a professional driving instructor.
At the end of the learner period, you can be satisfied that you’ve made a significant difference to the safety of your learner driver.
Finally, remember that learner drivers rarely have crashes, because they are being supervised by an experienced driver.
